Slow Reading of Ulysses in Brisbane

Nature of Event: A Four Day Workshop on Joyce’s Ulysses

In most book clubs, you get to read a book a month, discuss it for a couple of hours and then it’s gone. With slow reading, we take our time: whatever time the members want to take with it. We read together, page by page (no preparations or homework needed), stopping whenever we want for discussion. We go to archives, and the ever-increasing wealth of online resources. We examine maps and photos and artworks of the day. We listen to the music of the time, so we hear what the characters of the books are hearing around them or in their heads. We listen to, and see, recorded performances of the text.

Spend four entire days immersed in the experience with us every year. We usually meet on the Tuesday to Friday of the last week in November, at Brisbane’s Greek Club, close to Brisbane’s South Bank precinct.

When: 21 November to 24 November, four days from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Where: Greek Club, 29 Edmondstone St, South Brisbane
QLD 4101

Cost:  $500; $400 conc. Includes meals and the food, according to our feed back, is splendid and plenty.
