The Lover’s Tale

A Poem by Jim Stock (‘The Rev’)

As a younger man I found myself enchanted by her style;
Her rosy glow entranced me and she always made me smile.
As my lips pressed hard against her, my blood would take a rush,
For the fire deep inside her would always make me blush.

Our brief five-minute love affairs were joy beyond belief
As my whole body trembled and gave me sweet relief.
But time went by, as it always does, and soon we were to part
For those brief five-minute love affairs took a toll upon my heart.

So we went our separate ways and not to my regret,
For when you take a look at her, she was just a cigarette.
