Eugene O’Rourke at 3ZZZ
Eugene O’Rourke, prominent for years in many Irish groups in Melbourne, was on Australia Day the recipient of a Medal in the Order of Australia for services to ethnic radio.
Eugene has broadcast the Irish programme on 3ZZZ since 1975, and is devoted to spreading his expertise in radio by training many other presenters. He has chaired many ZZZ multi-ethnic committees. In 2002, he became Victorian Irish-Australian of the Year, and in 2015 Comhaltas in Ireland awarded him their medal for his support of Irish music outside Ireland.
Tinteán wishes Eugene warm congratulations, and John Worcester is preparing an in-depth profile on Eugene for an issue later this year.
Hear, Hear ! Hearty congratulations to Eugene and well done to the members of the Commission who made such a worthy appointment.
