Join us for the inaugural Fenians, Fremantle & Freedom Festival (5-14 Jan). A 10-day cultural festival which will be celebrating the Irish culture and influence on Australia. It will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the arrival of 62 Irish Fenians aboard the Hougoumont in 1868 – the last convict ship to Australia.
89 DAYS – THE HOUGOUMONT JOURNEY
The “89 days” exhibition is a collection of new artworks from some of Western Australia’s best contemporary artists. The exhibition is a visual response to the poems and passages written by the Irish political prisoners (the Fenians) during the journey of the last convict ship to Australia – the Hougoumont, which landed in Fremantle on 10th Jan 1868.

Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill are regarded as two of the world’s leading artists in traditional Irish music. They are flying to WA especially to perform for one night only on 5th Jan for the “Fenians, Fremantle and Freedom Festival”. Tickets selling fast. Buy here
Award winning Irish poet Tony Curtis is regarded as one of Ireland’s most influential poets of this century. Awards include the Irish National Poetry Prize. Curtis will deliver readings and workshops at the “Fenians Fremantle and Freedom Festival” (5-14th Jan). For details click here
Declan O’Rourke is a highly renowned Irish singer songwriter, acclaimed by his peers. He will be performing only 2 shows in Fremantle as part of the Festival. On Thursday 11th Jan at the WA Maritime Museum, hear the songs that Declan is famous for.
On Sat 13th Jan, Declan will incorporate some songs from his newly released album ‘Chronicles of the Great Irish Famine‘, never before performed in Australia. Get your tickets here.
