Kelly vs Barry

Nature of Event:  Barry versus Kelly is a dramatic narrative about the trial and execution the famous Irish/Australian outlaw Ned Kelly, and his haunting of Judge Barry, the judge who sentenced him, with the words – ‘I will see you where I go.’ Set inside the freezing walls of the Melbourne goal, the play and music explore the raw courage of Ned (played by Penal), and his mother Ellen (Cora Brown), and the anguish of the judge who fears he might be making a martyr of Kelly. With musicians Cyril Moran and Lou Hesterman and the vocals of Cora Browne, and Danny Spooner.

Feedback suggests that this, over 135 years later, this might be as emotionally as close to the story as you can get. See Tony Smith’s extended review www.thecud.com.au. Feel the corruption and decadence  of the times as Chloe (Redmond Barry’s nurse) tries to compromise the premier of Victoria who has a plan to shut down the police force. Understand the anguish of the Judge Barry who is told he will be forever known as the man who hanged Ned Kelly, but seeks vengeance on the Fenian rebels who burnt down the family home Ireland! Feel like you’re in the room as Ned tells his mother about the death of son and brother, Dan, at Glenrownan – “Glory, to his name!” Be seduced by the beautiful playing of musicians !
