Dr Noone is being honoured “for his contribution to Irish Studies in Australia”.  Val comments:

This is a great honour and a complete surprise. In accepting with pride and gratitude  the invitation to accept the honour of a Doctorate of Letters from the National University of Ireland I do so on behalf of the many people I have worked with over the years. I want to thank especially the members and officials of the community groups of which I have been part such as the production team, subscribers and advertisers of Táin and Tinteán magazines, the Irish Ancestry Group, the Irish Studies Association of Australia and New Zealand, the Irish Language Association of Australia, the Celtic Club of Melbourne, the Higgins Chair of Irish Studies at University of Melbourne, the Newman-St Mary’s Academic Centre and the Australian Irish Heritage Association.

Tinteán warmly congratulates Val Noone and notes that this award marks long decades of work for the Irish and Irish-Australian community of Victoria and Australia.

  1. Congratulations Val!
(from someone who a long time ago worked with Mary. I still have a great deal of respect for her. Back in those days the name I was known by was “Kaija”).
